Welcome to The Silent Reader
I want to open conversations about books and how we choose what to read next. I want to know what you’re reading, how you choose what to read next, how many TBR lists you keep, what you think about re-reading books, not-finishing books, book reviews, and the current state of bookstores. And that’s just for starters. Let’s start a conversation!
About Me
I am an old lady who reads. And I like to write and talk to other people who read and like to talk about books. I don’t do much social media—no Twitter or Instagram, a rare visit to Facebook, and a bit of Pinterest. I write real letters on actual paper that I send to real people by mail in an envelope with a real stamp. I am tech-savvy enough to figure out how to create a blog on Substack, and I do use email, text messaging, and a fully functioning iPhone (that should really be called something like iEverythingIncludingTheAbilityToMakeAndReceiveCalls). I even have and use apps on that iEITATMARC. I know enough about current social media options that I can easily say no to the ones I don’t want. Ahhh . . .
I plan to have fun writing this blog and hearing from you and sharing our thoughts about books, which is really sharing our thoughts about life. In spite of the blog being located smack in the middle of a technological, cacophonous deluge of information, mis-information, and news (fake and real) up the wazoo, I want this space to be a peaceful place to visit. I feel like I’m inviting you into my living room. I hope you feel welcome and comfortable enough to tell me what you think.
Stay up-to-date
I’ll share with you what I’m reading, have just finished reading (or didn’t finish reading), what’s up next, and anything else book-related that strikes me as food for conversation. In each post I’ll ask you some questions to get a conversation going. I’d love to exchange opinions and ideas with you and give you a platform for engaging with other readers.
If you subscribe, future issues will appear in your inbox (and if you send me your address, I might send you a note to land in your real mailbox). If you don’t want to subscribe, you can find me here at vernawilder.substack.com.
I invite you to a join a community of readers. I’ll get us started. And then . . . let’s talk.
